- Pea size (1/4 inch diameter / Minimal roof damage)
- Quarter size (1” diameter / Moderate roof damage)
- Golf ball sized (1.5”+ diameter / severe roof damage)


Granule Loss

Loss of granules will greatly impact the overall performance and life expectancy of your roof. When hail stones strike your roof at over 90mph, they displace the granules of your roof and cause the underlying mat of your roof to be exposed to the many outside elements, including the harmful UV rays from the sun!

If caught early, the damage due to minor granule loss and exposure of the underlying mat can be minimal. Yet overtime, the UV rays from the sun can cause the mat to crack and diminish the water shedding ability your roof previously had.

Rupturing of the mat

When larger sized hail stones impact the shingles of your roof, granules are heavily displaced and the shingle's mat can become ruptured. This is a very severe problem for your roof and immediate detection is required to reduce the adverse deterioration of your overall roofing system.

Whether from granule loss or rupturing of the mat, when shingles lose their water shedding ability, water will begin deteriorating your roofing system. By allowing water and UV rays to reach the roof fasteners & roof decking, erosion will begin allowing water to enter your home!
